France Baby Food Export Price in October 2022
In October 2022, the baby food price amounted to $6,935 per ton (FOB, France), surging by 6.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a slight increase. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In October 2022, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($12,406 per ton), while the average price for exports to Italy ($2,162 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to October 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Egypt (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
France Baby Food Exports
In October 2022, after three months of growth, there was decline in shipments abroad of food preparations for infants, when their volume decreased by -1.4% to 14K tons. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2% over the period from January 2022 to October 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 27% month-to-month. The exports peaked at 15K tons in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to October 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, baby food exports expanded rapidly to $98M (IndexBox estimates) in October 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1% over the period from January 2022 to October 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 29% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure in October 2022.
France Baby Food Exports by Country
China (3.8K tons) was the main destination for baby food exports from France, with a 27% share of total exports. Moreover, baby food exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Algeria (1.5K tons), threefold. The UK (834 tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.9% share.
From January 2022 to October 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to China stood at +2.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Algeria (+6.1% per month) and the UK (-4.2% per month).
In value terms, China ($31M) remains the key foreign market for baby food exports from France, comprising 32% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Algeria ($10M), with an 11% share of total exports. It was followed by Iraq, with a 4.1% share.
From January 2022 to October 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to China amounted to +1.6%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Algeria (+6.6% per month) and Iraq (+2.5% per month).
