France Butter Import Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the butter price stood at $8,003 per ton (CIF, France), growing by 3.4% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to August 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +4.7%. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 when the average import price increased by 6.9% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in August 2022.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Germany ($8,434 per ton) and Finland ($8,228 per ton), while the price for the UK ($6,842 per ton) and Poland ($7,485 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Finland (+6.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
France Butter Imports
In September 2022, imports of butter into France fell markedly to 5 tons, waning by 99.9% compared with the previous month. Overall, imports saw a dramatic decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2022 with an increase of 20% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of 19K tons. From July 2022 to September 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, butter imports reduced sharply to $47K (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, imports recorded a sharp reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2022 with an increase of 24% m-o-m. As a result, imports attained the peak of $136M. From July 2022 to September 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
France Butter Imports by Country
The Netherlands (7.3K tons), Belgium (4.9K tons) and Ireland (1.5K tons) were the main suppliers of butter imports to France, with a combined 81% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Finland, Poland and the UK, which together accounted for a further 16%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in Finland (with a CAGR of +5.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($59M), Belgium ($39M) and Ireland ($12M) constituted the largest butter suppliers to France, with a combined 82% share of total imports. Germany, Finland, Poland and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.
Finland, with a CAGR of +12.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
