France Chicken Meat Import Price in March 2023
In March 2023, the chicken meat price amounted to $3,405 per ton (CIF, France), remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2022 an increase of 12% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $3,504 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to March 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In March 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($4,456 per ton), while the price for the UK ($1,243 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+1.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

France Chicken Meat Import Prices by Type
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplied products. In March 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices from fresh or chilled cuts of chicken ($3,792 per ton) and fresh or chilled whole chickens ($2,978 per ton), while the price for frozen cuts of chicken ($2,800 per ton) and frozen whole chickens ($2,888 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by frozen chicken cut (+1.2%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
France Chicken Meat Imports
In March 2023, chicken meat imports into France rose rapidly to 47K tons, increasing by 15% compared with February 2023 figures. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, chicken meat imports skyrocketed to $161M (IndexBox estimates) in March 2023. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9% over the period from March 2022 to March 2023; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
France Chicken Meat Imports by Type
Fresh or chilled cuts of chicken (28K tons), frozen cuts of chicken (16K tons) and fresh or chilled whole chickens (2.3K tons) were the main products of chicken meat imports to France, with a combined 99% share of total imports. Frozen whole chickens lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further 1.3%.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the major product types, was attained by fresh whole chicken (with a CAGR of +4.1%), while imports for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, fresh or chilled cuts of chicken ($108M) constituted the largest type of chicken meat supplied to France, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by frozen cuts of chicken ($45M), with a 28% share of total imports. It was followed by fresh or chilled whole chickens, with a 4.3% share.
France Chicken Meat Imports by Country
Belgium (14K tons), Poland (11K tons) and the Netherlands (9.9K tons) were the main suppliers of chicken meat imports to France, together comprising 74% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, Spain, the UK, Hungary and Romania, which together accounted for a further 21%.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Hungary (with a CAGR of +21.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Belgium ($52M), Poland ($37M) and the Netherlands ($31M) were the largest chicken meat suppliers to France, with a combined 74% share of total imports. Germany, Spain, Hungary, Romania and the UK lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 21%.
Hungary, with a CAGR of +20.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
