Glass Fibre Price in France Increases 13% to $2.5K per Ton After Fluctuating Moderately in H1

France Glass Fibre and Article Export Price per Ton in July 2022

In July 2022, the glass fibre and article price per ton stood at $2.5K (FOB, France), picking up by 13% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to July 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +4.3%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Germany ($3.7K per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($1.5K per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+14.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

France Glass Fibre and Article Export Prices by Type

Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers ($7.2K per ton), while the average price for exports of glass fibre filaments, rovings, chopped strands, and staple glass fibre articles amounted to $1.8K per ton.

From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: glass fibre filament, roving, and staple glass fibre article (+2.4%), while the prices for the other product experienced more modest paces of growth.

France Glass Fibre and Article Exports

In August 2022, the amount of glass fibres and glass fibre articles exported from France dropped remarkably to 1.8K tons, waning by -81.1% against the previous month's figure. In general, exports showed a precipitous decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 with an increase of 4% m-o-m.

In value terms, glass fibre and article exports dropped notably to $7.8M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, exports faced a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2022 when exports increased by 14% m-o-m. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $35M. From March 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Glass fibre filaments, rovings, chopped strands, and staple glass fibre articles (8.1K tons) was the largest type of glass fibre and article exported from France, with a 87% share of total exports. Moreover, glass fibre filaments, rovings, chopped strands, and staple glass fibre articles exceeded the volume of the second product type, voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers (1.2K tons), sevenfold.

From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of export of glass fibre filaments, rovings, chopped strands, and staple glass fibre articles stood at -9.3%.

In value terms, the most traded types of glass fibres and glass fibre articles in France were glass fibre filaments, rovings, chopped strands, and staple glass fibre articles ($15M) and voiles, webs, mats and other articles of glass fibers ($8.4M).

Among the main product categories, glass fiber, with a CAGR of +2.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review.

Italy (1.9K tons), Spain (1.3K tons) and Switzerland (1.2K tons) were the main destinations of glass fibre and article exports from France, together accounting for 47% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, the UK, Finland, Poland and Austria, which together accounted for a further 42%.

From January 2022 to July 2022, the biggest increases were in Belgium (with a CAGR of +2.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, the largest markets for glass fibre and article exported from France were Italy ($4M), Spain ($2.6M) and Belgium ($2.6M), with a combined 40% share of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Belgium, with a CAGR of +5.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
