In July 2023, purchases abroad of raspberries and blackberries decreased by -33.9% to 1.7K tons, falling for the second month in a row after three months of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when imports increased by 55% against the previous month.

In value terms, raspberry and blackberry imports plummeted to $9.3M (IndexBox estimates) in July 2023. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Imports by Country

Portugal (622 tons), Spain (387 tons) and the Netherlands (356 tons) were the main suppliers of raspberry and blackberry imports to France, with a combined 81% share of total imports.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Portugal (with a CAGR of +0.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, the largest raspberry and blackberry suppliers to France were Portugal ($3.1M), the Netherlands ($3M) and Spain ($1.6M), with a combined 82% share of total imports.

Portugal, with a CAGR of +0.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.

Import Prices by Country

In July 2023, the raspberry and blackberry price amounted to $5,550 per ton (CIF, France), with a decrease of -16% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in February 2023 when the average import price increased by 34% against the previous month. The import price peaked at $9,402 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to July 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($8,310 per ton), while the price for Germany ($2,825 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+1.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
