France Spirits And Liqueurs Exports
In 2024, overseas shipments of spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages decreased by -19.8% to 147M litres, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, exports saw a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 67%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 452M litres. From 2020 to 2024, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, spirits and liqueurs exports contracted remarkably to $4.5B (IndexBox estimates) in 2024. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 33% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $6.1B in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country
the United States (38M litres) was the main destination for spirits and liqueurs exports from France, accounting for a 26% share of total exports. Moreover, spirits and liqueurs exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, China (12M litres), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by the UK (9.9M litres), with a 6.8% share.
From 2014 to 2024, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to the United States amounted to -9.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: China (-3.6% per year) and the UK (-13.0% per year).
In value terms, the largest markets for spirits and liqueurs exported from France were the United States ($1.4B), China ($725M) and Singapore ($483M), together comprising 59% of total exports. the UK, South Africa, Germany, Canada and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 14%.
South Africa, with a CAGR of +13.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2024, the spirits and liqueurs price amounted to $31 per litre (FOB, France), which is down by -2.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the average export price increased by 112% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $32 per litre in 2023, and then contracted in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($86 per litre), while the average price for exports to Russia ($5.3 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From 2014 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK (+13.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
