GE Aerospace Embarks on $10 Million MRO Investment in Middle East Facilities

As part of a broader $1 billion global MRO expansion plan, GE Aerospace has unveiled a $10 million initiative to enhance its maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) capabilities in the Middle East. The investment, which spans 2024 and 2025, seeks to bolster operational efficiency and capacity in response to the scaling growth plans of regional airlines.

This effort will support GE Aerospace's On Wing Support (OWS) facilities located in Dubai, UAE, and Doha, Qatar. It will finance new tooling and equipment acquisition, infrastructure enhancements, and expanded training programs. According to IndexBox data, the Middle East remains a strategic market, with the company currently supporting nearly 30 airlines operating over 1,400 engines.

Aziz Koleilat, president and CEO for GE Aerospace in the Middle East, Turkiye, and CIS, highlighted the initiative's alignment with regional airline ambitions. "Airlines in the region have ambitious growth plans that depend on keeping engines on wing and operating efficiently," he said. "Expanding our MRO capacity means we can work on more engines, and there is more we can do to those engines."

GE Aerospace's regional impact extends to its Middle East Technology Center (MTC) in Dubai and partner MRO facilities. The planned investment also anticipates a 30 percent headcount increase and funding for additional regional investment opportunities.

The enhancement will allow OWS facilities to carry out more quick-turn maintenance, particularly on CFM LEAP* engines, thus reducing downtime and improving operational flexibility. Increased training focus, through the introduction of new modules and equipment, aims to expedite workforce development and certification.

The company will leverage its FLIGHT DECK lean operating model to drive improvements in safety, quality, and efficiency within these facilities. This marks a proactive effort to meet the needs of its clients as the industry faces ongoing supply chain challenges.

With over 750 LEAP-1A and LEAP-1B engines operating within the Middle East, Turkiye, and CIS regions, the investment also positions GE Aerospace to accommodate the forthcoming GE9X engine, which is slated to power Boeing's 777X. Notably, the Middle East represents the largest global market for GE9X orders.
