Ether Price Drops 2% in Germany, Averaging $2,487 per Ton

Germany Ether Export Price in January 2023

In January 2023, the ether price stood at $2,487 per ton (FOB, Germany), falling by -2.2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2022 when the average export price increased by 25% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $3,383 per ton. From October 2022 to January 2023, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In January 2023, the country with the highest price was the United States ($5,700 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($1,343 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+3.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Germany Ether Exports

In January 2023, approximately 35K tons of ethers were exported from Germany; increasing by 6.4% on December 2022 figures. Overall, exports, however, saw a pronounced downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 when exports increased by 22% against the previous month. The exports peaked at 54K tons in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to January 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ether exports rose to $88M (IndexBox estimates) in January 2023. In general, exports, however, showed a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 17% month-to-month. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $137M. From April 2022 to January 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Germany Ether Exports by Country

the Netherlands (8.6K tons), Belgium (6.1K tons) and Switzerland (2.7K tons) were the main destinations of ether exports from Germany, with a combined 49% share of total exports. These countries were followed by France, Spain, Poland, Italy, the UK, China, South Africa, the United States, Norway and Austria, which together accounted for a further 39%.

From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Norway (with a CAGR of +3.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Belgium ($18M), the Netherlands ($12M) and France ($6.6M) appeared to be the largest markets for ether exported from Germany worldwide, with a combined 41% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Spain, Switzerland, Italy, the UK, Poland, the United States, China, Austria, South Africa and Norway, which together accounted for a further 41%.

In terms of the main countries of destination, Norway, with a CAGR of +4.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Ether Price in Germany Below Average as Price Decreases 2%

Germany's ether prices have dropped 2% over the past week, now averaging $2,487 per ton. This figure is surprisingly lower than the global average price of ether, affecting short-term investors and producers alike. Ether is a major commodity traded on the international market and is used in a variety of industrial and commercial applications. As Germany is a key player in the ether market, the recent price reduction has caused a ripple across the international ether markets, leading to decreased demand as prices continue to stay low. The impact of this dip in prices could have a lasting effect on the international ether industry if prices fail to recover soon.
