Germany Expanded Metal Export Price in April 2023
In April 2023, the expanded metal price amounted to $3,081 per ton (FOB, Germany), approximately reflecting the previous month. In general, the export price, however, showed a slight reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 23% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $3,717 per ton in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to April 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was France ($4,728 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($2,454 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Turkey (-0.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Germany Expanded Metal Exports
Expanded metal exports from Germany shrank significantly to 536 tons in April 2023, which is down by -17.7% compared with the previous month. Overall, total exports indicated a perceptible expansion from April 2022 to April 2023: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.5% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on April 2023 figures, exports increased by +65.1% against December 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in January 2023 when exports increased by 58% month-to-month.
In value terms, expanded metal exports declined significantly to $1.7M (IndexBox estimates) in April 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 with an increase of 53% month-to-month. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $2M, and then dropped dramatically in the following month.
Germany Expanded Metal Exports by Country
the Czech Republic (180 tons), Poland (106 tons) and France (46 tons) were the main destinations of expanded metal exports from Germany, with a combined 62% share of total exports. Austria, Slovakia, Italy and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 24%.
From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Slovakia (with a CAGR of +5.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the Czech Republic ($442K), Poland ($282K) and France ($216K) were the largest markets for expanded metal exported from Germany worldwide, together comprising 57% of total exports. Austria, Slovakia, Italy and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 23%.
Among the main countries of destination, Slovakia, with a CAGR of +4.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
