Germany's Metal Bath Price Declines Slightly to $120 per Unit After Two Consecutive Months of Decline

Germany Metal Bath Export Price in February 2023

In February 2023, the metal bath price amounted to $120 per unit (FOB, Germany), remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 26% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $131K per thousand units. From January 2023 to February 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In February 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($211 per unit), while the average price for exports to Kazakhstan ($78.0 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Germany Metal Bath Export Prices by Type

As there is only one major exported type of metal bath, the average price level is determined by prices for iron (other than cast) or steel; baths.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the rate of growth in terms of prices for iron (other than cast) or steel; baths amounted to +0.6% per month.

Germany Metal Bath Exports

In February 2023, approximately 43K units of baths of iron or steel were exported from Germany; with an increase of 13% against the previous month's figure. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when exports increased by 21% against the previous month. The exports peaked at 58K units in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to February 2023, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, metal bath exports rose remarkably to $5.1M (IndexBox estimates) in February 2023. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a slight contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 when exports increased by 16% against the previous month. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $6.8M. From May 2022 to February 2023, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Iron (other than cast) or steel; baths (43K units) was the largest type of metal bath exported from Germany, with a approximately 100% share of total exports.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of export of iron (other than cast) or steel; baths totaled -1.7%.

In value terms, iron (other than cast) or steel; baths ($5.1M) remains the largest type of metal bath exported from Germany, comprising 100% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by cast iron, baths, whether or not enamelled ($4.2K), with a 0.1% share of total exports.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the average monthly growth rate of the export volume of iron (other than cast) or steel; baths stood at -1.1%.

Germany Metal Bath Exports by Country

The UK (10K units), Switzerland (7.4K units) and the Czech Republic (4.4K units) were the main destinations of metal bath exports from Germany, together comprising 51% of total exports. Kazakhstan, France, Hong Kong, China, Austria, Italy, Sweden, Poland and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 38%.

From February 2022 to February 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +65.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the UK ($972K), Switzerland ($663K) and France ($447K) appeared to be the largest markets for metal bath exported from Germany worldwide, with a combined 40% share of total exports. the Czech Republic, Austria, China, Italy, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Sweden, Poland and Belgium lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 41%.

Kazakhstan, with a CAGR of +41.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
