Price of Narrow Woven Fabric Drops to $17.7 per kg in Germany

Germany Narrow Woven Fabric Export Price in May 2023

In May 2023, the narrow woven fabric price stood at $17,712 per ton (FOB, Germany), dropping by -1.7% against the previous month. Over the period from May 2022 to May 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 an increase of 17% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $18,021 per ton in April 2023, and then declined modestly in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Romania ($20,572 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Netherlands ($9,677 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Romania (+8.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In May 2023, the product with the highest price was labels, badges and similar articles; of textile materials, in the piece, in strips or cut to shape or size, not embroidered ($64,283 per ton), while the average price for exports of fabrics; narrow woven, other than goods of heading no. 5807; narrow fabrics consisting of warp without weft assembled by means of an adhesive (bolducs) ($14,741 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From May 2022 to May 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: braids in the piece; ornamental trimmings in the piece, without embroidery, other than knitted or crocheted; tassels, pompons and similar articles (+3.4%), while the prices for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.

Germany Narrow Woven Fabric Exports

In May 2023, overseas shipments of narrow woven fabrics were finally on the rise to reach 2K tons for the first time since February 2023, thus ending a two-month declining trend. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2022 when exports increased by 48% month-to-month.

In value terms, narrow woven fabric exports expanded remarkably to $36M (IndexBox estimates) in May 2023. In general, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 with an increase of 35% against the previous month.

Fabrics; narrow woven, other than goods of heading no. 5807; narrow fabrics consisting of warp without weft assembled by means of an adhesive (bolducs) (1.8K tons) was the largest type of narrow woven fabric exported from Germany, with a 92% share of total exports. Moreover, fabrics; narrow woven, other than goods of heading no. 5807; narrow fabrics consisting of warp without weft assembled by means of an adhesive (bolducs) exceeded the volume of the second product type, braids in the piece; ornamental trimmings in the piece, without embroidery, other than knitted or crocheted; tassels, pompons and similar articles (121 tons), more than tenfold.

From May 2022 to May 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of fabrics; narrow woven, other than goods of heading no. 5807; narrow fabrics consisting of warp without weft assembled by means of an adhesive (bolducs) amounted to -2.4%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: braids in the piece; ornamental trimmings in the piece, without embroidery, other than knitted or crocheted; tassels, pompons and similar articles (-0.8% per month) and labels, badges and similar articles; of textile materials, in the piece, in strips or cut to shape or size, not embroidered (+0.3% per month).

In value terms, fabrics; narrow woven, other than goods of heading no. 5807; narrow fabrics consisting of warp without weft assembled by means of an adhesive (bolducs) ($27M) remains the largest type of narrow woven fabric exported from Germany, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by braids in the piece; ornamental trimmings in the piece, without embroidery, other than knitted or crocheted; tassels, pompons and similar articles ($5.4M), with a 15% share of total exports.

From May 2022 to May 2023, the average monthly growth rate of the export volume of fabrics; narrow woven, other than goods of heading no. 5807; narrow fabrics consisting of warp without weft assembled by means of an adhesive (bolducs) was relatively modest. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: braids in the piece; ornamental trimmings in the piece, without embroidery, other than knitted or crocheted; tassels, pompons and similar articles (+2.6% per month) and labels, badges and similar articles; of textile materials, in the piece, in strips or cut to shape or size, not embroidered (-0.7% per month).

Germany Narrow Woven Fabric Exports by Country

Poland (417 tons) was the main destination for narrow woven fabric exports from Germany, accounting for a 21% share of total exports. Moreover, narrow woven fabric exports to Poland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Czech Republic (170 tons), twofold. Romania (145 tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.2% share.

From May 2022 to May 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to Poland was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the Czech Republic (-5.7% per month) and Romania (-6.5% per month).

In value terms, the largest markets for narrow woven fabric exported from Germany were Poland ($4.1M), Romania ($3M) and the Czech Republic ($2.4M), together accounting for 27% of total exports. The United States, Hungary, France, Turkey, Italy, Tunisia, the Netherlands, Mexico, Morocco and Spain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 36%.

Hungary, with a CAGR of +3.6%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
