Germany's June 2023 Paper Machinery Export Sees a Significant Decline, Plummeting to $10M

Germany Paper Machinery Exports

Paper machinery exports from Germany contracted to 1.3K units in June 2023, with a decrease of -11.2% against the previous month's figure. Overall, exports, however, saw noticeable growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 with an increase of 425% m-o-m. The exports peaked at 7.5K units in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to June 2023, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, paper machinery exports contracted rapidly to $10M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2023. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 with an increase of 153% m-o-m. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $50M. Exports by Country

China (1K units) was the main destination for paper machinery exports from Germany, with a 78% share of total exports. Moreover, paper machinery exports to China exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Turkey (288 units), fourfold.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to China totaled +4.0%.

In value terms, China ($7.7M) remains the key foreign market for paper machinery exports from Germany, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Turkey ($2.5M), with a 24% share of total exports.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to China totaled -2.0%.

Export Prices by Country

In June 2023, the paper machinery price amounted to $7,816 per unit (FOB, Germany), shrinking by -52.1% against the previous month. In general, the export price showed a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2023 an increase of 138% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $19,749 per unit in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($8,758 per unit), while the average price for exports to China totaled $7,543 per unit.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to New Zealand (+410.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
