Germany Polycarboxylic Acid Exports
In July 2023, approximately 33K tons of polycarboxylic acids were exported from Germany; shrinking by -18.3% on June 2023 figures. Over the period under review, exports recorded a pronounced curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in December 2022 when exports increased by 17% m-o-m.
In value terms, polycarboxylic acid exports contracted markedly to $60M (IndexBox estimates) in July 2023. In general, exports showed a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 when exports increased by 15% month-to-month.

Exports by Country
Italy (10K tons) was the main destination for polycarboxylic acid exports from Germany, accounting for a 30% share of total exports. Moreover, polycarboxylic acid exports to Italy exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the Netherlands (4.5K tons), twofold. France (2.6K tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.9% share.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to Italy totaled -2.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (-4.1% per month) and France (-6.4% per month).
In value terms, Italy ($16M), the Netherlands ($8.9M) and France ($5.1M) appeared to be the largest markets for polycarboxylic acid exported from Germany worldwide, together accounting for 50% of total exports. Luxembourg, Spain, Switzerland and the United States lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 19%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Luxembourg, with a CAGR of -3.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Export Prices by Country
In July 2023, the polycarboxylic acid price stood at $1,803 per ton (FOB, Germany), falling by -3.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price saw a mild setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in January 2023 an increase of 8.6% m-o-m. The export price peaked at $2,229 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to July 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major overseas markets. In July 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to the Netherlands ($1,979 per ton) and France ($1,931 per ton), while the average price for exports to China ($1,408 per ton) and Poland ($1,565 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Luxembourg (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
