Potato Chips Price in Germany Peaks at $1,783 per Ton

Germany Potato Chips Import Price in October 2022

In October 2022, the potato chips price amounted to $1,783 per ton (CIF, Germany), remained relatively stable against the previous month. Over the last nine-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2022 when the average import price increased by 16% against the previous month. The import price peaked in October 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was France ($3,008 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($1,355 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to October 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Germany Potato Chips Imports

In October 2022, the amount of potato chips imported into Germany reduced remarkably to 8.7K tons, waning by -22.4% against the month before. In general, total imports indicated a pronounced increase from January 2022 to October 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3% over the last nine months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2022 figures, imports decreased by -45.7% against August 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 with an increase of 71% m-o-m. As a result, imports attained the peak of 16K tons. From September 2022 to October 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, potato chips imports reduced dramatically to $15M (IndexBox estimates) in October 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a pronounced expansion from January 2022 to October 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +4.1% over the last nine-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on October 2022 figures, imports decreased by -36.5% against August 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 with an increase of 67% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $24M. From September 2022 to October 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Germany Potato Chips Imports by Country

In October 2022, the Netherlands (6.6K tons) constituted the largest supplier of potato chips to Germany, with a 76% share of total imports. Moreover, potato chips imports from the Netherlands exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Poland (1.2K tons), sixfold. Belgium (350 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4% share.

From January 2022 to October 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from the Netherlands amounted to +2.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Poland (+4.8% per month) and Belgium (+1.6% per month).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($8.9M) constituted the largest supplier of potato chips to Germany, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Poland ($3.5M), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 4.8% share.

From January 2022 to October 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from the Netherlands amounted to +3.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Poland (+5.9% per month) and Belgium (+6.3% per month).
