Germany Radar Apparatus Exports
In August 2023, shipments abroad of radar apparatus, radio navigational aid apparatus and radio remote control apparatus was finally on the rise to reach 1.9M units for the first time since May 2023, thus ending a two-month declining trend. Over the period under review, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in November 2022 with an increase of 48% m-o-m. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 2.3M units. From December 2022 to August 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, radar apparatus exports expanded significantly to $225M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2023. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3% from August 2022 to August 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2023 with an increase of 34% m-o-m. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $259M. From April 2023 to August 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country
The United States (237K units), China (225K units) and Spain (203K units) were the main destinations of radar apparatus exports from Germany, together accounting for 34% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, France, Hungary and Austria, which together accounted for a further 23%.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the biggest increases were in Hungary (with a CAGR of +7.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, the United States ($59M) remains the key foreign market for radar apparatus exports from Germany, comprising 26% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($29M), with a 13% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with a 5.4% share.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to the United States was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: China (-1.6% per month) and the Czech Republic (+3.9% per month).
Exports by Type
Radio remote control apparatus (1.8M units) was the largest type of radar apparatus exported from Germany, with a 93% share of total exports. Moreover, radio remote control apparatus exceeded the volume of the second product type, radio navigational aid apparatus (70K units), more than tenfold.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of radio remote control apparatus was relatively modest. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: radio navigational aid apparatus (-0.7% per month) and radar apparatus (+0.9% per month).
In value terms, radar apparatus ($130M) remains the largest type of radar apparatus exported from Germany, comprising 58% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by radio remote control apparatus ($57M), with a 26% share of total exports.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the average monthly growth rate of the export volume of radar apparatus amounted to +1.9%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: radio remote control apparatus (+1.3% per month) and radio navigational aid apparatus (-0.4% per month).
Export Prices by Country
In August 2023, the radar apparatus price amounted to $116 per unit (FOB, Germany), with a decrease of -1.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, export price indicated a slight expansion from August 2022 to August 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2023 figures, radar apparatus export price decreased by -8.8% against June 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 an increase of 66% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the peak figure at $134 per unit in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to August 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($248 per unit), while the average price for exports to Austria ($44.8 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From August 2022 to August 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
