Germany's Import of Radio Receivers in June 2023 Decreases to $49M

Germany Radio Receiver Imports

In June 2023, approximately 1.1M units of radio receivers were imported into Germany; picking up by 1.9% on the month before. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 when imports increased by 29% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at 2.2M units in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to June 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, radio receiver imports reduced slightly to $49M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2023. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in September 2022 when imports increased by 47% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at 66M units in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to June 2023, imports remained at a lower figure. Imports by Country

In June 2023, China (529K units) constituted the largest supplier of radio receiver to Germany, with a 50% share of total imports. Moreover, radio receiver imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (108K units), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Hungary (107K units), with a 10% share.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume from China totaled -3.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Belgium (+16.7% per month) and Hungary (+5.6% per month).

In value terms, Hungary ($19M) constituted the largest supplier of radio receiver to Germany, comprising 39% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($9M), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Portugal, with a 12% share.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Hungary totaled +8.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: China (-5.0% per month) and Portugal (+10.9% per month).

Imports by Type

In June 2023, radio-broadcast receivers; operational without external power source, without sound recording or reproducing apparatus, including apparatus capable of receiving radio-telephony or radio-telegraphy (531K units) constituted the largest type of radio receiver supplied to Germany, with a 50% share of total imports. Moreover, radio-broadcast receivers; operational without external power source, without sound recording or reproducing apparatus, including apparatus capable of receiving radio-telephony or radio-telegraphy exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, radio-broadcast receivers (175K units), threefold. Radio (telephony, telegraphy, broadcast) broadcast receivers; apparatus (other than pocket-size radio cassette-players), combined with sound recording or reproducing apparatus, not needing external power (136K units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 13% share.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of import of radio-broadcast receivers; operational without external power source, without sound recording or reproducing apparatus, including apparatus capable of receiving radio-telephony or radio-telegraphy stood at -2.9%. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: radio-broadcast receivers (+3.0% per month) and radio (telephony, telegraphy, broadcast) broadcast receivers; apparatus (other than pocket-size radio cassette-players), combined with sound recording or reproducing apparatus, not needing external power (-3.1% per month).

In value terms, radio-broadcast receivers ($25M) constituted the largest type of radio receiver supplied to Germany, comprising 51% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by radio receivers for motor vehicles ($8.3M), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by radio-broadcast receivers n.e.c. in heading no. 8527; combined with sound recording or reproducing apparatus, with a 13% share.

Import Prices by Country

In June 2023, the radio receiver price stood at $46.5 per unit (CIF, Germany), shrinking by -3.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, import price indicated a notable expansion from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +3.4% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, radio receiver import price increased by +34.8% against April 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2023 when the average import price increased by 40% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $49,259 per thousand units. From April 2023 to June 2023, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($179 per unit), while the price for Belgium ($15.3 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Hungary (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
