Grab Holdings Ltd. Continues Triumph in Southeast Asia

Grab Holdings Ltd., the Singapore-based ride-hailing and delivery giant, has witnessed a remarkable 35% surge in its stock this quarter, and analysts predict more gains to follow. According to a report by Bloomberg, the company is on track to boost its profitability amidst robust competition and capitalizing on its scale. Read more here.

Evercore ISI International Ltd. recently elevated its price target for Grab's stock from $7 to $8, signaling a 56% upside from its current standing. This comes as analysts anticipate the company to swing to a $6.5 million operating profit in the current quarter, a significant recovery from the $38 million loss reported in the previous three months, as indicated by data compiled by Bloomberg.

Grab has emerged as a dominant force in Southeast Asia's ride-hailing and online food delivery sectors, outpacing main competitor GoTo Group from Indonesia. Maybank Securities analyst Hussaini Saifee notes the firm's strength in core services and the promising growth of its digital banking segment could further propel its momentum in the upcoming quarter. Grab's ability to reduce spending on customer incentives while creating opportunities for drivers underscores its advantageous scale.

With improved third-quarter performance leading at least 22 analysts to raise their target prices, the stock closed at $5.13 last Friday. Evercore analysts, including Mark Mahaney, emphasized that Grab's future profitability would be driven by sustainable growth, market leadership, and scale efficiencies analogous to those witnessed by Uber globally.

Despite impressive progress, Grab faces a decline in revenue growth compared to earlier triple-digit rates, as regional consumers tighten spending in response to heightened inflation and interest rates amid uncertain economic conditions. Citigroup Inc. analyst Alicia Yap suggests that the company's shares will remain on an upward trajectory if it continues to deliver favorable outcomes, buoyed by Southeast Asia's structural opportunities and minimal exposure to potential US trade policies under a possible second presidency of Donald Trump.
