Guggenheim Predicts Fed Rate Cuts Every Quarter in 2025

In a recent discussion at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Guggenheim Partners' chief investment officer Anne Walsh forecasted that the U.S. Federal Reserve is likely to reduce interest rates quarterly in 2025. According to Reuters, these cuts could amount to around 75 basis points or potentially a full percentage point over the year.

Walsh's comments suggest a more gradual pace of rate reductions than previously anticipated, aligning with recent trading sentiments that now see fewer rate cuts this year compared to expectations from a month ago. Additionally, Walsh highlighted the potential rise in tariffs under President Donald Trump, projecting an average increase of less than 10% with a focus on specific countries, contingent on the strength of the U.S. dollar.

The bond market, which experienced a significant bull run until 2022, continues to trade within a range for the third consecutive year, presenting opportunities amid volatility. As Walsh pointed out, a possible surge in the 10-year bond yield to 5% could be perceived as an oversold position, signaling a buying opportunity. Such dynamics could result in tight yield spreads, potentially benefiting U.S. equities.

Moreover, Walsh expressed optimism about stock gains driven by factors like advancements in artificial intelligence, energy initiatives, and the re-shoring of manufacturing to the U.S. These themes are expected to contribute to S&P 500 returns ranging between 8%-10% by the end of 2025, based on data from the IndexBox platform.
