Imports

In 2024, purchases abroad of headphones was finally on the rise to reach 78M units after two years of decline. In general, imports, however, saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 25% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at 163M units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2024, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, headphone imports skyrocketed to $1.1B in 2024. Over the period under review, imports posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $1.2B. The purchases of the five major importers of headphones, namely Colombia, Peru, Argentina, Mexico and Ecuador, represented more than two-thirds of total import. Chile (2.6M units), Venezuela (2.2M units) and Uruguay (1.9M units) took a little share of total imports.
