H&M Shifts Focus to Regional Suppliers in Response to U.S. Tariff Threats

Swedish fast-fashion giant H&M is accelerating its efforts to source more products from suppliers located closer to its key markets in Europe and the U.S., a strategic pivot largely driven by the looming threat of U.S. import tariffs. As reported by Reuters, H&M's finance chief, Adam Karlsson, emphasized the need for a regionalized supply chain to enhance resilience in light of recent geopolitical and economic challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

Karlsson elaborated on the situation, stating that potential U.S. tariffs are a significant concern for H&M, prompting the retailer to consider suppliers in Central America to better serve markets such as the U.S. and Brazil. For its European operations, H&M is increasing its supplier base in Turkey and exploring opportunities in Morocco and Egypt, aiming to create a more responsive and customer-focused supply chain.
