Hong Kong's First Property Launch in the Year of the Snake Sees Slow Start

In the first property launch of the Year of the Snake, only 23 of the 133 units available at The Reserve at Gold Coast Bay in Tuen Mun were sold by late afternoon, according to South China Morning Post. This figure indicates a sluggish start for the new development, with less than a fifth of the units finding buyers as of 5:30 PM on the launch day.

Despite the slow sales, Sammy Po Siu-ming, CEO of Midland Realty's residential division, expressed satisfaction, stating that the results were in line with expectations. Po attributed the tepid sales to the extended Lunar New Year holiday, during which many potential buyers were likely traveling. He remains optimistic that sales will gain momentum as people return and resume their property searches.

In contrast, last month saw a more robust performance from developer Early Light International Holdings, owned by toy tycoon Francis Choi Chee-ming. The company successfully sold over three-quarters of the initial 280 units from The Reserve. The current batch of flats ranges in price starting at HK$2.95 million (US$378,000), or HK$9,412 per square foot after discounts, with unit sizes spanning from 271 to 655 square feet and some featuring rooftop spaces.

Hong Kong's Real Estate Market
