India's Electronic Chip Price Falls 4% to $1.1 per Unit After 2 Months of Decline

India Electronic Chip Import Price in November 2022

In November 2022, the electronic chip price stood at $1.1 per unit (CIF, India), with a decrease of -4.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price showed a perceptible reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2022 an increase of 6.3% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1.3 per unit in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to November 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($3.2 per unit), while the price for Thailand ($337 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.

From February 2022 to November 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

India Electronic Chip Import Prices by Type

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In November 2022, the product with the highest price was multichip integrated circuits: memories ($11.2 per unit), while the price for electronic integrated circuits; n.e.c. in heading no. 8542 ($609 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.

From February 2022 to November 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by electronic integrated circuits; processors and controllers, whether or not combined with memories, converters, logic circuits, amplifiers, clock and timing circuits, or other circuits (-0.9%), while the prices for the other products experienced a decline.

India Electronic Chip Imports

In November 2022, approximately 1.1B units of electronic chips were imported into India; remaining constant against the previous month's figure. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 23% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at 1.4B units in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to November 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, electronic chip imports declined to $1.2B (IndexBox estimates) in November 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in July 2022 with an increase of 16% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 1.6B units in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to November 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

India Electronic Chip Imports by Type

In November 2022, electronic integrated circuits; processors and controllers, whether or not combined with memories, converters, logic circuits, amplifiers, clock and timing circuits, or other circuits (742M units) constituted the largest type of electronic chip supplied to India, with a 68% share of total imports. Moreover, electronic integrated circuits; processors and controllers, whether or not combined with memories, converters, logic circuits, amplifiers, clock and timing circuits, or other circuits exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, electronic integrated circuits; n.e.c. in heading no. 8542 (301M units), twofold. Electronic integrated circuits (36M units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.3% share.

From February 2022 to November 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of import of electronic integrated circuits; processors and controllers, whether or not combined with memories, converters, logic circuits, amplifiers, clock and timing circuits, or other circuits amounted to +1.3%. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: electronic integrated circuits; n.e.c. in heading no. 8542 (-1.2% per month) and electronic integrated circuits (-1.6% per month).

In value terms, electronic integrated circuits; processors and controllers, whether or not combined with memories, converters, logic circuits, amplifiers, clock and timing circuits, or other circuits ($755M) constituted the largest type of electronic chip supplied to India, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by multichip integrated circuits: memories ($205M), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by electronic integrated circuits; n.e.c. in heading no. 8542, with a 16% share.

India Electronic Chip Imports by Country

China (424M units), Hong Kong SAR (261M units) and Singapore (159M units) were the main suppliers of electronic chip imports to India, with a combined 77% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese), South Korea, Japan, Malaysia and Thailand, which together accounted for a further 17%.

From February 2022 to November 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (with a CAGR of +8.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest electronic chip suppliers to India were China ($294M), Hong Kong SAR ($273M) and South Korea ($163M), with a combined 63% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Taiwan (Chinese), Singapore, Japan, Malaysia and Thailand, which together accounted for a further 20%.

In terms of the main suppliers, Taiwan (Chinese), with a CAGR of +8.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
