Infosys Revises Annual Sales Forecast, Signaling Hopes of Increased IT Spending

Bangalore-based Infosys Ltd. has raised its annual sales forecast for the third time this fiscal year, fueling optimism about a rebound in corporate spending on technology. The revised forecast came as reported by Bloomberg, and projects a revenue increase of 4.5% to 5% for the fiscal year ending March 2025, compared to an earlier projection between 3.75% and 4.5%. Analysts had expected a growth of 5.6%.

The upward revision is indicative of easing economic pressures, such as inflation in the US, which is improving possibilities of interest rate cuts. These fiscal adjustments are poised to free up larger budgets for IT projects in 2025. However, the industry remains cautious of potential H-1B visa restrictions and protectionist measures from Donald Trump's administration that could impact outsourcers' business.

Performance Highlights

In the quarter ending December 2024, Infosys reported a net income rise of 11% to 68.1 billion rupees ($787 million), surpassing analysts' average expectations of 67.7 billion rupees. Sales also observed a growth by 7.6% to 417.6 billion rupees, defying typical weaknesses of the December quarter due to furloughs.

Despite these gains, Infosys shares experienced a slight dip, closing 1% lower in Mumbai trading ahead of the earnings announcement. Nonetheless, the company's shares have recorded an overall gain of 2.6% this year.

Outlook for Indian IT Giants

According to Bloomberg Intelligence analyst Anurag Rana, Infosys “could gain greater visibility in customers' discretionary tech budgets the next quarter,” which is likely to aid recovery in the coming months.

Infosys, alongside its larger competitor Tata Consultancy Services Ltd., is witnessing improved customer confidence in IT investments for 2025. Indian IT firms, part of the $250 billion industry, are leaning toward automation, cloud computing, and generative AI to procure extensive business transformation deals from global enterprises such as Apple Inc. and Boeing Co.
