Interest in German Government's Divestment in Uniper Grows

The German government's plan to divest its stake in Uniper SE has caught the attention of several international energy giants, notably including Abu Dhabi's Taqa. The transaction could potentially value Uniper at over EUR10 billion ($10.3 billion), indicating significant interest and financial implications.

Beyond Taqa, Norway's Equinor ASA is also considering a move, signifying the strategic value of Uniper's assets, which span coal, gas, hydroelectric, and nuclear power sectors across Germany, the Netherlands, the UK, and Sweden. Uniper's organization has engaged Goldman Sachs Group Inc. to advise its management board through this process.

Bloomberg reports that Germany is contemplating several methods to reduce its current stake from over 99% to meet the European Commission's demand of reducing its holding to not more than 25% plus one share by 2028. This includes exploring direct sales, public stock offerings, or a possible "re-IPO."
