Israeli Firm Wiz Uncovers Security Lapse in Chinese AI Startup DeepSeek

Israeli cybersecurity company Wiz has revealed a significant security oversight by Chinese artificial intelligence startup DeepSeek, causing sensitive data to be exposed to the public internet. According to a report by Reuters, Wiz's analysis showed that over a million lines of data were accidentally left unsecured by DeepSeek, including digital software keys and chat logs.

Wiz's Chief Technology Officer, Ami Luttwak, stated that DeepSeek moved quickly to secure the data once notified, taking it down in less than an hour. However, Luttwak expressed concerns that such data was "so simple to find" that other parties besides Wiz might have accessed it.

DeepSeek's rapid rise, fueled by the success of its AI assistant, has captivated China and raised alarm in the U.S. The startup's competitive edge in delivering AI capabilities akin to those of OpenAI at a much lower cost threatens the business models and profit margins of major U.S. tech players like Nvidia and Microsoft.
