Italy Ceramic Tile Export Price in January 2023
In January 2023, the ceramic tile price stood at $18.7 per square meter (FOB, Italy), reducing by -2.8% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average export price increased by 6.5% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $19.3 per square meter in December 2022, and then reduced in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Switzerland ($23.4 per square meter), while the average price for exports to Hungary ($11.1 per square meter) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Greece (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Italy Ceramic Tile Exports
After three months of decline, shipments abroad of ceramic tiles increased by 2.3% to 19M square meters in January 2023. Overall, exports, however, recorded a pronounced setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 32% month-to-month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 35M square meters. From April 2022 to January 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, ceramic tile exports contracted to $357M (IndexBox estimates) in January 2023. In general, exports, however, saw a mild shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 31% m-o-m. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $589M. From April 2022 to January 2023, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
Italy Ceramic Tile Exports by Country
France (4.3M square meters), Germany (2.6M square meters) and the United States (1.6M square meters) were the main destinations of ceramic tile exports from Italy, together accounting for 45% of total exports. Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, the UK, Switzerland, Israel, Greece, Canada, Croatia and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.
From January 2022 to January 2023, the biggest increases were in Croatia (with a CAGR of +0.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, France ($74M), Germany ($44M) and the United States ($36M) constituted the largest markets for ceramic tile exported from Italy worldwide, together accounting for 43% of total exports. the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, the UK, Israel, Austria, Canada, Greece, Croatia and Hungary lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 26%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Greece, with a CAGR of +0.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
