Italy's Spectacle Frame Price at $39.7 per Unit

Italy Spectacle Frame Export Price in December 2022

In December 2022, the spectacle frame price amounted to $39.7 per unit (FOB, Italy), with a decrease of -2.9% against the previous month. Over the period from December 2021 to December 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The growth pace was the most rapid in August 2022 when the average export price increased by 14% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $40.9 per unit in November 2022, and then contracted modestly in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($53.5 per unit), while the average price for exports to Argentina ($8.3 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Italy Spectacle Frame Export Prices by Type

Average prices varied noticeably for the major types of exported product. In December 2022, the product with the highest price was plastic frames and mountings for spectacles and goggles ($40.9 per unit), while the average price for exports of non-plastic frames and mountings for spectacles and goggles totaled $37.8 per unit.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: spectacle plastic frame (+1.6%).

Italy Spectacle Frame Exports

In December 2022, overseas shipments of frames and mountings for spectacles, goggles or the like decreased by -17.8% to 2.9M units, falling for the second month in a row after two months of growth. Over the period under review, exports saw a slight setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2022 with an increase of 78% against the previous month. The exports peaked at 4.2M units in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to December 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, spectacle frame exports contracted dramatically to $114M (IndexBox estimates) in December 2022. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2022 with an increase of 65% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at 163M units in October 2022; however, from November 2022 to December 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Italy Spectacle Frame Exports by Type

Plastic frames and mountings for spectacles and goggles (1.8M units) and non-plastic frames and mountings for spectacles and goggles (1.1M units) were the main products of spectacle frame exports from Italy.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the major product types, was attained by spectacle plastic frame (with a CAGR of -1.1%).

In value terms, the most traded types of frames and mountings for spectacles, goggles or the like in Italy were plastic frames and mountings for spectacles and goggles ($72M) and non-plastic frames and mountings for spectacles and goggles ($42M).

Spectacle plastic frame, with a CAGR of +0.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main product categories over the period under review.

Italy Spectacle Frame Exports by Country

the United States (681K units), France (371K units) and Germany (175K units) were the main destinations of spectacle frame exports from Italy, together accounting for 43% of total exports. Turkey, Spain, the UK, China, the Netherlands, Mexico, Brazil, Switzerland, Portugal and Argentina lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Argentina (with a CAGR of +16.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($36M) remains the key foreign market for spectacle frame exports from Italy, comprising 32% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by France ($15M), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Germany, with a 6.1% share.

From December 2021 to December 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to the United States was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: France (-0.9% per month) and Germany (-1.0% per month).
