In 2023, overseas shipments of transistors, other than photosensitive transistors decreased by -29.4% to 48B units, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 21%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at 73B units in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2023, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, transistor exports declined slightly to $2.7B (IndexBox estimates) in 2023. Overall, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2013 to 2023: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, exports increased by +90.2% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 17% against the previous year. The exports peaked at $2.7B in 2022, and then declined in the following year.

Thailand (16B units) was the main destination for transistor exports from Japan, with a 33% share of total exports.
