Keppel's Profit Surges Due to Rising Demand for Digital Infrastructure

On February 5, 2025, Singapore's Keppel Corporation reported a notable increase of 5% in its full-year underlying profit, as detailed in a source from Yahoo Finance. This rise is attributed largely to its connectivity segment, which saw a surge in earnings due to robust demand for digital infrastructure essential for AI-driven services.

Keppel's connectivity arm, which administers its data center operations, experienced an impressive near 45% growth in annual net profit. Data centers, crucial for housing the computer systems and hardware organizations rely on to process and store data, continue to thrive amid escalating demands for AI and associated digital infrastructure across the Asia Pacific region.

According to the IndexBox platform, the Asia Pacific data center market is poised for significant expansion, with investments in this sector expected to see substantial increases. This aligns with Keppel's strategy, as highlighted in October, to more than double its data center funds under management and broaden its operational capacity.

Other Performance Highlights

Despite the upswing in the connectivity arm, Keppel's highest-grossing infrastructure segment encountered a 4% decline in profit, amounting to S$673 million by the end of the fiscal year on December 31. This downturn resulted from reduced fair value gains on sponsor stakes and smaller distributions from Keppel Infrastructure Trust.

Overall, Keppel's net profit from ongoing operations rose to S$1.06 billion (approximately $784.20 million) in 2024, improving from S$1.02 billion recorded in the prior year. Targeting an ambitious transformation into a leading asset manager, Keppel aims to manage S$200 billion by 2030, and by December's end, their funds under management stood at S$88 billion.

The firm has also announced a consistent final dividend of 19 Singapore cents per share, maintaining last year's figures. With the current exchange rate of $1 equaling 1.3517 Singapore dollars, Keppel remains a pivotal player in the evolving digital infrastructure landscape.
