LG Electronics Targets $15 Billion Valuation for Indian Unit IPO

LG Electronics Inc., a major South Korean multinational, is considering raising the valuation of its Indian unit to as much as $15 billion ahead of a planned IPO next year. A report by Bloomberg highlights that this decision follows positive feedback from analysts and investors, according to individuals familiar with the matter.

LG Electronics India Pvt. aims to initiate an official roadshow for the IPO within the coming two months, targeting its listing in Mumbai in the first half of 2025. Previously, the company had estimated a valuation around $13 billion, but ongoing deliberations and investor interest have prompted considerations for a higher figure, though adjustments may occur based on final demand.

LG recently filed a draft red herring prospectus with Indian regulators, outlining intentions to offer up to 101.82 million shares, all of which are existing. The IPO could potentially raise between $1 billion and $1.5 billion with the involvement of major financial institutions including Morgan Stanley, JPMorgan Chase & Co., Axis Capital Ltd., Bank of America Corp., and Citigroup Inc.

As LG's shares have declined approximately 13% in Seoul this year, the company's current market value stands at $10 billion. Nevertheless, India has experienced a robust year for share sales; data from Bloomberg indicates that nearly $18 billion has been garnered from IPOs. Such notable listings include Hyundai Motor Co.'s Indian unit with a record $3.3 billion IPO, alongside significant ventures by Swiggy Ltd. and NTPC Green Energy Ltd.
