The fires have wreaked havoc, leaving many neighborhoods in ruins and impacting major industry players in the area, such as Capital Group, TCW Group, Oaktree Capital, and Ares Management. Collectively, firms in Los Angeles oversee more than $4 trillion of the $132 trillion in assets managed globally in the United States.

Katie Koch, president and CEO of TCW, shared the devastating impact on their team, mentioning in a LinkedIn letter that several employees, including herself, have lost their homes. Despite these losses, Koch reassured that all Los Angeles-based TCW employees are safe.

Similarly, Anacapa Advisors, managing $60.5 million in assets, experienced the complete destruction of its newly established office in Pacific Palisades due to the Palisades Fire. The firm has implemented its business continuity plan, ensuring continued operations through remote work and robust risk management systems.

Other firms, including Oaktree Capital with over $200 billion in assets under management, remain operational with contingency measures, such as backup power systems in their data center, in place. DoubleLine employees and those at the Milken Institute, as well as Dimensional Fund Advisors, have also adapted to remote work due to hazardous air quality.

Kevin Philip from Bel Air Investment Advisors highlighted that protocols established during the COVID-19 pandemic have prepared them for such scenarios, enabling seamless business operations remotely.

As challenges persist, including a Santa Ana wind warning extending risks, firms remain vigilant, prioritizing both business continuity and employee safety amidst these natural calamities.
