LVMH Reclaims its Position as Europe's Largest Stock

LVMH has successfully recaptured its position as Europe's largest stock from Novo Nordisk A/S, marking a significant turnaround for the French luxury-goods giant. This shift occurred as Novo Nordisk's market capitalization dipped to approximately $355 billion following a 4% drop in their shares due to US legislative scrutiny of its blockbuster drugs Ozempic and Wegovy. Meanwhile, LVMH's market value remained stable around $357 billion.

LVMH experienced a challenging 2024 with a 13% slump in its shares, as the luxury sector grappled with reduced consumer spending in China. However, recent economic stimulus measures in China have rekindled optimism for a recovery, with a sector-wide rebound of over 20% since mid-November, according to data from IndexBox.

Financial experts, such as Bank of America's Ashley Wallace, have expressed bullish sentiments regarding LVMH, upgrading recommendations based on improved market conditions. Barclays' analyst Carole Madjo also anticipates a small rebound in the luxury sector in 2025, praising LVMH's positioning as a sector proxy.

Novo Nordisk, on the other hand, has faced notable challenges including a more than 40% decline in shares since last June. Factors such as drug pricing concerns and competition pressures, alongside disappointing trial results for its experimental drug CagriSema, have contributed to this downturn.
