Macquarie Group Exits Net Zero Banking Alliance Amid Global Shifts

Australia's Macquarie Group has decided to exit the Net Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA), becoming the latest in a series of banks to leave the initiative. The NZBA was established in 2021 under a United Nations finance initiative and currently comprises 134 banks from 44 countries, collectively managing assets worth around $56 trillion. Remaining members after Macquarie's departure include HSBC, Barclays, Deutsche Bank, and Singapore's DBS Bank.

In context, Macquarie stated earlier it had minimal exposure to disruptions in the U.S. green energy sector due to previous executive orders. Despite its exit, Macquarie plans to release a detailed update on its climate activities in its annual report set for May 2025.
