Global consumption peaked at 61M tons in 2023, and then fell modestly in the following year.

The global mango and mangosteen market size totaled $80.5B in 2024, approximately reflecting the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). In value terms, India ($29.1B) led the market, alone. The second position in the ranking was taken by Indonesia ($5.6B). It was followed by China.

From 2013 to 2024, the average annual growth rate of value in India amounted to +5.7%. The remaining consuming countries recorded the following average annual rates of market growth: Indonesia (+7.5% per year) and China (+3.5% per year).

In 2024, the highest levels of mango and mangosteen per capita consumption was registered in Malawi (97 kg per person), followed by India (18 kg per person), Mexico (16 kg per person) and Vietnam (15 kg per person), while the world average per capita consumption of mango and mangosteen was estimated at 7.5 kg per person.

The total output volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2013 to 2024; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 11%. Over the period under review, global production attained the peak volume at 61M tons in 2023, and then fell modestly in the following year. The general positive trend in terms output was largely conditioned by a tangible increase of the harvested area and a modest expansion in yield figures.

In value terms, mango and mangosteen production stood at $82B in 2024 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, the total production indicated buoyant growth from 2013 to 2024: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% over the last eleven-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2024 figures, production decreased by -1.9% against 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 19% against the previous year. Global production peaked at $83.6B in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, production failed to regain momentum.

Production By Country

India (26M tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of mango and mangosteen production, comprising approx. 43% of total volume. The global average mango and mangosteen yield totaled 9.9 tons per ha in 2024, leveling off at 2023 figures. The yield figure increased at an average annual rate of +1.8% from 2013 to 2024; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 when the yield increased by 8.3% against the previous year. The global yield peaked at 10 tons per ha in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, the yield remained at a lower figure.

Harvested Area

In 2024, the global mango and mangosteen harvested area shrank modestly to 6.1M ha, approximately equating the previous year. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2024 figures, imports decreased by -10.5% against 2021 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports hit record highs at 2.6M tons in 2021; however, from 2022 to 2024, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mango and mangosteen imports reduced slightly to $4.1B in 2024. In general, total imports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2013 to 2024: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last eleven years. In 2024, the United States (545K tons), distantly followed by China (297K tons), the Netherlands (208K tons) and Saudi Arabia (104K tons) were the major importers of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas, together making up 50% of total imports. The following importers - the United Arab Emirates (84K tons), the UK (84K tons), Vietnam (79K tons), Canada (72K tons), Spain (67K tons) and Germany (63K tons) - together made up 20% of total imports.

From 2013 to 2024, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +8.4%), while imports for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($879M), China ($692M) and the Netherlands ($372M) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2024, together comprising 47% of global imports. The UK, Germany, Canada, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Vietnam lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.

The average mango and mangosteen import price stood at $1,801 per ton in 2024, rising by 3.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2013 to 2024, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.8%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 11%. Global import price peaked in 2024 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the UK ($3,315 per ton), while Vietnam ($600 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, total exports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2013 to 2024: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 15% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 2.7M tons. From 2022 to 2024, the growth of the global exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, mango and mangosteen exports stood at $4.1B in 2024. In general, exports posted prominent growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 19%. The global exports peaked in 2024 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Mexico (457K tons) and Thailand (457K tons) represented roughly 35% of total exports in 2024. Brazil (250K tons) took a 9.7% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Peru (8.5%), Pakistan (5.4%) and the Netherlands (5%). India (107K tons), China (104K tons), Indonesia (73K tons) and Egypt (71K tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2013 to 2024, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +29.3%), while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest mango and mangosteen supplying countries worldwide were Thailand ($763M), Mexico ($701M) and Brazil ($365M), together comprising 45% of global exports. The Netherlands, Peru, India, Indonesia, Egypt, China and Pakistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 32%.

Among the main exporting countries, Indonesia, with a CAGR of +32.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices By Country

In 2024, the average mango and mangosteen export price amounted to $1,583 per ton, increasing by 6% against the previous year. Over the period from 2013 to 2024, it increased at an average annual rate of +3.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 15% against the previous year. The global export price peaked in 2024 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
