McDonalds to Close Three CosMcs Locations, Plans Two New Openings

In a recent move, McDonalds has decided to close three of its CosMcs locations, while planning to launch two new smaller stores in Texas. According to CNBC, the fast-food giant aims to continue testing its drinks-focused spinoff brand.

CosMcs, which first appeared in Bolingbrook, Illinois, over a year ago, has now expanded into several Texas locations. However, McDonalds will shutter three larger format locations in favor of more compact prototypes. While specific closure sites remain undisclosed, the CosMcs website indicates a new store will soon open in Allen, Texas.

Early data suggests that McDonalds' introduction of CosMcs taps into the burgeoning "afternoon beverage pick-me-up occasion," with top sellers like savory hash browns, McPops mini filled doughnuts, and popular drinks such as the Island Pick Me Up Punch.

McDonalds currently holds over 13,500 establishments in the U.S., with CosMcs still representing a minor fraction of its overall operations. Nonetheless, the pilot continues as the giant seeks further insights from its CosMcs demographic, supported by a loyalty program tailored specifically for the brand.
