McEwen Mining's Strategic Move: A Stake in Goliath Resources

In a significant development in the mining industry, McEwen Mining (NYSE, TSX: MUX) has announced an investment of C$10 million, equivalent to $7 million, to acquire a 3.76% stake in Goliath Resources (TSX-V: GOT). The official announcement, available here, details how this transaction involves McEwen shares.

This move comes after Goliath's successful 2024 drilling campaign at its Surebet high-grade gold discovery located in British Columbia's Golden Triangle. Impressively, visible gold was identified in 92% of drill holes, a marked increase from 32% in 2023. A notable finding from these drills was an intersection yielding 10 meters of 132.93 g/t gold equivalent, which positions it in the upper echelon of global intersections over the past two decades. Roger Rosmus, Goliath Resources' CEO, emphasized the significance of these results.

Rob McEwen, chairman and CEO of McEwen Mining, expressed his attraction to the high-grade gold discovery in this globally renowned mining-friendly jurisdiction. According to McEwen, such high-grade gold discoveries in mining-friendly regions are incredibly rare. Since 2023, he has increased his personal investment in Goliath, reflecting confidence in its prospects.

Goliath Resources has captured the attention of other prominent figures in the Canadian mining sector, including Eric Sprott, who invested C$2 million ($1.6 million), ensuring an 8.5% stake post-financing. In addition to Sprott, Crescat Capital became a significant stakeholder in 2022, acquiring 19.9% of the company.
