McEwen Mining's Grey Fox Resource Expansion

McEwen Mining (NYSE: MUX) (TSX: MUX) has announced a remarkable increase in the gold resource at its Grey Fox deposit since the end of 2021. According to Mining.com, the indicated gold resource saw an impressive growth of 32%, reaching 1.54 million ounces, with the inferred resource nearly doubling to 458,000 ounces. This collective increase represents a near 50% growth in total gold ounces when compared to three years ago.

Data from IndexBox offers further insights into the mining industry trends supporting this success, notably the influence of a higher gold price, currently at $2,000 per ounce, which has allowed for strategic adjustments in the cutoff grade, from 2.30 g/t to 1.60 g/t.

The Grey Fox resources are distributed across six different zones, with notable increases in the Gibson zone, where indicated resources soared by 181% to 290,000 ounces. Furthermore, Whiskey-Jack zone enjoyed significant mineralization with 116,000 ounces of gold and notable width and grade characteristics, making it a standout within the Grey Fox deposit.

The expansion of McEwen's Fox Complex in Northern Ontario is timely, aiming to develop and exploit several deposits, including Grey Fox, Froome, Stock West, and Fuller. The robust growth of resources such as those at Grey Fox enhances the prospects for increased annual production and extended mine life, as McEwen Mining continues to capitalize on its strategic explorations in regions historically associated with over 110 million ounces of gold production.

In 2022, a preliminary economic assessment suggested that the expanded Fox Complex could achieve an annual production of 72,000 ounces over a 12-year span, bolstering McEwen Mining's potential to meet increasing demand in the gold market. Interestingly, in the wake of this growth announcement, McEwen's shares experienced a 3.2% rise, trading at $8.48 in New York, reflecting a market capitalization of $449 million.
