Mexico Aluminium and Titanium Imports

In 2024, the amount of aluminium and titanium imported into Mexico soared to 927K tons, picking up by 60% on 2023. Over the period under review, imports saw significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 with an increase of 629%. Imports peaked in 2024 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, aluminium and titanium imports surged to $2.7B (IndexBox estimates) in 2024. Overall, imports posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 72%. Imports by Country

the United States (169K tons), India (109K tons) and the United Arab Emirates (99K tons) were the main suppliers of aluminium and titanium imports to Mexico, with a combined 65% share of total imports. Bahrain, Vietnam, Malaysia, Canada and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.

From 2014 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Vietnam (with a CAGR of +45.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($554M), the United Arab Emirates ($299M) and India ($268M) were the largest aluminium and titanium suppliers to Mexico, with a combined 67% share of total imports. Bahrain, Vietnam, Malaysia, Canada and Russia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 29%.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +51.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports by Type

In 2024, aluminum and alloys (927K tons) was the main type of aluminium and titanium supplied to Mexico, with a 99.9% share of total imports. It was followed by titanium sponge, powders, ingots and slabs (60 tons), with less than 0.1% share of total imports.

From 2014 to 2024, the average annual rate of growth in terms of the volume of aluminum and alloys imports totaled +23.6%.

In value terms, aluminum and alloys ($2.7B) constituted the largest type of aluminium and titanium supplied to Mexico, comprising 99.9% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by titanium sponge, powders, ingots and slabs ($351K), with less than 0.1% share of total imports.

Import Prices by Country

In 2023, the aluminium and titanium price amounted to $2,886 per ton (CIF, Mexico), with a decrease of -10.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a deep downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when the average import price increased by 39%. The import price peaked at $13,864 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were the United States ($3,273 per ton) and Canada ($3,029 per ton), while the price for India ($2,445 per ton) and Russia ($2,513 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2014 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Malaysia (+6.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
