Mexico Battery Import Price in June 2023
In June 2023, the battery price stood at $304 per thousand units (CIF, Mexico), rising by 16% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 an increase of 25% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $323 per thousand units. From August 2022 to June 2023, the average import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($965 per thousand units), while the price for Indonesia ($76.0 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Singapore (+9.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Mexico Battery Import Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In June 2023, the product with the highest price was cells and batteries; primary, air-zinc ($1.4 per unit), while the price for cells and batteries; primary, manganese dioxide ($208 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by cells and batteries; primary, (other than manganese dioxide, mercuric oxide, silver oxide, lithium or air-zinc) (+4.1%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
Mexico Battery Imports
In June 2023, primary cells and primary batteries imports into Mexico reduced to 84M units, which is down by -7% compared with May 2023. Over the period under review, imports showed a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when imports increased by 54% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of 151M units. From February 2023 to June 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, primary cells and primary batteries imports stood at $26M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2023. In general, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 when imports increased by 20% month-to-month. Imports peaked at 28M units in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Mexico Battery Imports by Type
In June 2023, cells and batteries; lithium (54M units) constituted the largest type of primary cells and primary batteries supplied to Mexico, with a 64% share of total imports. Moreover, cells and batteries; lithium exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, cells and batteries; primary, manganese dioxide (24M units), twofold. Cells and batteries; primary, (other than manganese dioxide, mercuric oxide, silver oxide, lithium or air-zinc) (2.8M units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 3.3% share.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of import of cells and batteries; lithium was relatively modest. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: cells and batteries; primary, manganese dioxide (-4.3% per month) and cells and batteries; primary, (other than manganese dioxide, mercuric oxide, silver oxide, lithium or air-zinc) (-7.5% per month).
In value terms, cells and batteries; lithium ($18M) constituted the largest type of primary cells and primary batteries supplied to Mexico, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by cells and batteries; primary, manganese dioxide ($5M), with a 19% share of total imports. It was followed by cells and batteries; primary, air-zinc, with a 6.7% share.
Mexico Battery Imports by Country
In June 2023, China (38M units) constituted the largest supplier of primary cells and primary batteries to Mexico, with a 45% share of total imports. Moreover, primary cells and primary batteries imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Indonesia (16M units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by the United States (14M units), with a 17% share.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the average monthly growth rate of volume from China totaled -4.9%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Indonesia (+10.4% per month) and the United States (-1.3% per month).
In value terms, the largest primary cells and primary batteries suppliers to Mexico were the United States ($8M), China ($7M) and Japan ($3.1M), together comprising 70% of total imports. These countries were followed by South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia and France, which together accounted for a further 23%.
Among the main suppliers, Singapore, with a CAGR of +13.4%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
