Microsoft Aims to Diversify AI Models for 365 Copilot

In a strategic move to minimize reliance on OpenAI, Microsoft is working on integrating both internal and third-party artificial intelligence models into its Microsoft 365 Copilot. This transition aims to enhance the functionality while reducing operational costs of its flagship AI product, according to a recent report by Reuters.

As a result, Microsoft intends to pass these cost efficiencies onto consumers, potentially increasing the appeal of 365 Copilot across enterprises. Despite concerns over pricing and usefulness, a survey by Gartner highlighted that most enterprises have not advanced their 365 Copilot projects beyond pilot stages. Nevertheless, BNP Paribas Exane analysts predict that Microsoft will successfully expand its 365 Copilot to over 10 million paid users this year. Supporting this optimism, Microsoft announced that as of November, 70% of Fortune 500 companies are utilizing 365 Copilot.
