Global consumption peaked at 4.5M units in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, consumption failed to regain momentum.

The global milking machine market revenue rose remarkably to $12.6B in 2024, picking up by 9.3% against the previous year. This figure reflects the total revenues of producers and importers (excluding logistics costs, retail marketing costs, and retailers' margins, which will be included in the final consumer price). Overall, consumption saw prominent growth. Global consumption peaked at $12.9B in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Consumption By Country

The country with the largest volume of milking machine consumption was China (636K units), accounting for 15% of total volume. Moreover, milking machine consumption in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest consumer, Belarus (297K units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Nigeria (186K units), with a 4.4% share.

In China, milking machine consumption increased at an average annual rate of +13.7% over the period from 2013-2024. The remaining consuming countries recorded the following average annual rates of consumption growth: Belarus (+31.4% per year) and Nigeria (+22.4% per year).

In 2024, global production of milking machines expanded significantly to 4.1M units, with an increase of 5.2% compared with 2023 figures. Overall, production showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 64%. Global production peaked at 4.3M units in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, milking machine production reached $11.7B in 2024 estimated in export price. In general, production posted a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 64%. Over the period under review, global production hit record highs at $12.3B in 2022; however, from 2023 to 2024, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Production By Country

China (667K units) constituted the country with the largest volume of milking machine production, comprising approx. 16% of total volume. Moreover, milking machine production in China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Belarus (294K units), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Nigeria (185K units), with a 4.6% share.

In China, milking machine production expanded at an average annual rate of +13.0% over the period from 2013-2024. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+32.2% per year) and Nigeria (+22.4% per year).

Imports

World Imports of Milking Machines

In 2024, approx. 208K units of milking machines were imported worldwide; which is down by -17.9% compared with 2023. Overall, imports showed a abrupt contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 597K units. From 2015 to 2024, the growth of global imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, milking machine imports reduced sharply to $622M in 2024. Over the period under review, total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2013 to 2024: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last eleven years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2024 figures, imports increased by +2.4% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 40% against the previous year. The United States prevails in imports structure, finishing at 142K units, which was near 69% of total imports in 2024. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (12K units), achieving a 5.7% share of total imports. The following importers - Russia (5.5K units), Pakistan (4.8K units), Belarus (4K units) and New Zealand (3.2K units) - together made up 8.4% of total imports.

Imports into the United States decreased at an average annual rate of -8.2% from 2013 to 2024. At the same time, Pakistan (+33.7%), New Zealand (+14.5%), Kazakhstan (+13.8%) and Belarus (+10.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +33.7% from 2013-2024. Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2013 to 2024, the share of Kazakhstan, Pakistan and Belarus increased by +5, +2.3 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($37M) constitutes the largest market for imported milking machines worldwide, comprising 6% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($17M), with a 2.8% share of global imports. It was followed by the United States, with a 0.8% share.

From 2013 to 2024, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled +5.0%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (-2.5% per year) and the United States (-6.8% per year).

Import Prices By Country

In 2024, the average milking machine import price amounted to $3 thousand per unit, shrinking by -3.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2023 an increase of 88% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $3.1 thousand per unit, and then dropped modestly in the following year.

Exports

World Exports of Milking Machines

In 2024, approx. 71K units of milking machines were exported worldwide; dropping by -35.3% on the previous year. In general, exports continue to indicate a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 157%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 710K units. From 2020 to 2024, the growth of the global exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, milking machine exports plummeted to $566M in 2024. Overall, exports, however, saw a measured expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2023 with an increase of 37% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $857M, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

In 2024, China (32K units) was the major exporter of milking machines, making up 44% of total exports. It was distantly followed by India (6K units), Sweden (5.7K units), Germany (4.1K units), the Netherlands (3.7K units) and New Zealand (3.5K units), together committing a 32% share of total exports. The following exporters - Pakistan (2.7K units), the United States (1.9K units), Brazil (1.7K units) and Israel (1.6K units) - together made up 11% of total exports.

Exports from China increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% from 2013 to 2024. At the same time, Pakistan (+38.0%), India (+34.6%), Brazil (+6.9%), New Zealand (+2.4%) and Sweden (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Pakistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +38.0% from 2013-2024. By contrast, the United States (-1.7%), Israel (-16.6%), Germany (-17.6%) and the Netherlands (-23.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2013 to 2024, the share of China, India, Sweden, Pakistan, New Zealand and Brazil increased by +34, +8.3, +5.3, +3.7, +3.5 and +1.9 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest milking machine supplying countries worldwide were the Netherlands ($165M), Germany ($136M) and Sweden ($104M), with a combined 71% share of global exports. Israel, the United States, China, New Zealand, India, Brazil and Pakistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 11%.

India, with a CAGR of +23.6%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices By Country

In 2024, the average milking machine export price amounted to $7.9 thousand per unit, rising by 2% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 549% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum in 2024 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($45 thousand per unit), while Pakistan ($12 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
