Morgan Stanley Revises Fed Rate Cut Forecast Amid Tariff Concerns

In a revised outlook, Morgan Stanley has adjusted its prediction for U.S. Federal Reserve interest rate actions, now anticipating a single 25 basis point rate cut for 2025, aligning with similar forecasts from Barclays and Macquarie. The adjustment comes in response to uncertainties stemming from President Donald Trump's tariff policies, which are expected to exacerbate inflationary pressures.

Initially, Morgan Stanley expected two rate cuts this year, in March and June, but the unpredictability regarding tariffs has led to a more cautious stance. While peers Goldman Sachs and Wells Fargo maintain their expectation for two rate cuts in 2025, Morgan Stanley analysts highlight the potential inflationary impact of rapid tariff impositions, which may impede disinflation efforts.
