In January 2023, the aromatic alcohols price amounted to $3,113 per ton (FOB, Netherlands), increasing by 8.3% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to January 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major overseas markets. In January 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Japan ($3,357 per ton) and Brazil ($3,343 per ton), while the average price for exports to Belgium ($2,707 per ton) and the UK ($2,754 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+5.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Netherlands Aromatic Alcohols Exports
For the fourth month in a row, the Netherlands recorded decline in overseas shipments of aromatic alcohols and their derivatives, which decreased by -13.6% to 995 tons in January 2023. Overall, exports recorded a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2022 with an increase of 18% m-o-m.
In value terms, aromatic alcohols exports reduced to $3.1M (IndexBox estimates) in January 2023. Over the period under review, exports showed a noticeable descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in September 2022 with an increase of 17% m-o-m.
Netherlands Aromatic Alcohols Exports by Country
Germany (168 tons), Japan (128 tons) and Italy (116 tons) were the main destinations of aromatic alcohols exports from the Netherlands, with a combined 41% share of total exports. Norway, Spain, the United States, the UK, Belgium, Austria, France and Brazil lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 51%.
From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Austria (with a CAGR of +6.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for aromatic alcohols exported from the Netherlands were Germany ($500K), Japan ($430K) and Italy ($352K), together comprising 41% of total exports. These countries were followed by Norway, Spain, the United States, the UK, France, Brazil, Austria and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 49%.
Among the main countries of destination, Austria, with a CAGR of +8.8%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
