Netherlands Athletic Footwear Import Price in March 2023
In March 2023, the athletic footwear price amounted to $26.7 per pair (CIF, Netherlands), waning by -1.5% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 when the average import price increased by 21% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $34.9 per pair in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to March 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($47.4 per pair), while the price for Vietnam ($20.4 per pair) was amongst the lowest.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.

Netherlands Athletic Footwear Imports
In March 2023, approximately 2.6M pairs of athletic footwear were imported into the Netherlands; increasing by 4.2% on the previous month's figure. Overall, total imports indicated a mild expansion from March 2022 to March 2023: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8% over the last twelve-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on March 2023 figures, imports decreased by -20.3% against January 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 with an increase of 73% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of 4.2M pairs. From June 2022 to March 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, athletic footwear imports reached $70M (IndexBox estimates) in March 2023. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in January 2023 when imports increased by 26% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 93M pairs in August 2022; however, from September 2022 to March 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.
Netherlands Athletic Footwear Imports by Country
In March 2023, Vietnam (1.2M pairs) constituted the largest supplier of athletic footwear to the Netherlands, accounting for a 47% share of total imports. Moreover, athletic footwear imports from Vietnam exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (376K pairs), threefold. China (315K pairs) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 12% share.
From March 2022 to March 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Vietnam amounted to +6.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Belgium (-2.7% per month) and China (+1.7% per month).
In value terms, the largest athletic footwear suppliers to the Netherlands were Vietnam ($25M), Belgium ($18M) and Germany ($9.6M), with a combined 75% share of total imports. China, Indonesia, France and Cambodia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 20%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Cambodia, with a CAGR of +7.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
