Netherlands Chicken Meat Export Price in April 2023
In April 2023, the chicken meat price amounted to $2,588 per ton (FOB, Netherlands), with an increase of 9% against the previous month. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In April 2023, the country with the highest price was Ireland ($5,508 per ton), while the average price for exports to Angola ($767 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Netherlands Chicken Meat Export Prices by Type
Average prices varied somewhat for the major types of exported product. In April 2023, the products with the highest prices were fresh or chilled whole chickens ($3,048 per ton) and fresh or chilled cuts of chicken ($2,843 per ton), while the average price for exports of frozen cuts of chicken ($2,292 per ton) and frozen whole chickens ($2,302 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: frozen whole chicken (+1.0%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
Netherlands Chicken Meat Exports
After two months of growth, overseas shipments of chicken meat decreased by -23.5% to 98K tons in April 2023. Over the period under review, exports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 with an increase of 26% m-o-m. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 129K tons, and then dropped dramatically in the following month.
In value terms, chicken meat exports shrank dramatically to $254M (IndexBox estimates) in April 2023. Overall, exports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2023 with an increase of 21% m-o-m. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $305M, and then declined rapidly in the following month.
Netherlands Chicken Meat Exports by Type
Fresh or chilled cuts of chicken (49K tons), frozen cuts of chicken (45K tons) and fresh or chilled whole chickens (2.4K tons) were the main products of chicken meat exports from the Netherlands, with a combined 98% share of total exports. Frozen whole chickens lagged somewhat behind, comprising a further 1.7%.
From April 2022 to April 2023, the biggest increases were in fresh chicken cut (with a CAGR of -0.1%), while shipments for the other products experienced a decline.
In value terms, fresh or chilled cuts of chicken ($141M), frozen cuts of chicken ($103M) and fresh or chilled whole chickens ($7.3M) constituted the most exported types of chicken meat from the Netherlands worldwide, with a combined 99% share of total exports. These products were followed by frozen whole chickens, which accounted for a further 1.5%.
Fresh whole chicken, with a CAGR of +0.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main product categories over the period under review, while shipments for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.
Netherlands Chicken Meat Exports by Country
Germany (28K tons) was the main destination for chicken meat exports from the Netherlands, accounting for a 28% share of total exports. Moreover, chicken meat exports to Germany exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (13K tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Belgium (12K tons), with a 12% share.
From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to Germany was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the UK (-0.7% per month) and Belgium (+0.8% per month).
In value terms, the largest markets for chicken meat exported from the Netherlands were the UK ($60M), Germany ($60M) and France ($34M), together accounting for 61% of total exports. These countries were followed by Belgium, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Ghana, Romania, Denmark, Angola and Mozambique, which together accounted for a further 28%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Angola, with a CAGR of +16.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
