Netherlands Concrete Tile Imports
In 2024, purchases abroad of tiles, flagstones, bricks and similar articles, of cement, concrete or artificial stone decreased by -40.3% to 539K tons for the first time since 2021, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 31%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1.1M tons. From 2021 to 2024, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, concrete tile imports dropped significantly to $123M (IndexBox estimates) in 2024. Overall, imports, however, posted a perceptible expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 27%. Imports peaked at $191M in 2023, and then declined notably in the following year.

Imports by Country
In 2023, Germany (559K tons) constituted the largest concrete tile supplier to the Netherlands, accounting for a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, concrete tile imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (245K tons), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Poland (34K tons), with a 3.7% share.
From 2014 to 2023, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany amounted to -2.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+47.7% per year) and Poland (+9.3% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($95M), Belgium ($57M) and Poland ($9.9M) appeared to be the largest concrete tile suppliers to the Netherlands, with a combined 85% share of total imports. Spain, Italy, France and China lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 12%.
In terms of the main suppliers, Spain, with a CAGR of +52.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Moreover, building blocks and bricks of cement, concrete or artificial stone exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, tiles, flagstones and similar articles of cement, concrete or artificial stone (152K tons), threefold.
From 2014 to 2024, the average annual rate of growth in terms of the volume of building blocks and bricks of cement, concrete or artificial stone imports stood at -5.9%.

Import Prices by Country
In 2023, the concrete tile price amounted to $211 per ton (CIF, Netherlands), picking up by 20% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a resilient increase from 2014 to 2023: its price increased at an average annual rate of +7.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2023 figures, concrete tile import price increased by +57.3% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the average import price increased by 41% against the previous year. The import price peaked in 2023 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2023, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($462 per ton), while the price for Germany ($170 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2014 to 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
