Leather Shoes Prices in Netherlands Increase 12%, Average Price $26.4

Netherlands Leather Footwear Import Price in January 2023

In January 2023, the leather footwear price amounted to $26.4 per pair (CIF, Netherlands), surging by 12% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2022 an increase of 132% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $27.7 per pair in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to January 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In January 2023, the country with the highest price was Italy ($72.9 per pair), while the price for Indonesia ($16.8 per pair) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Netherlands Leather Footwear Import Prices by Type

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In January 2023, the product with the highest price was boots, sole rubber or plastic upper leather, nes ($33.6 per pair), while the price for footwear, soles, uppers of leather, over ankle, nes ($20.6 per pair) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by footwear; n.e.s. in heading no. 6403, covering the ankle, outer soles of rubber, plastics or composition leather, uppers of leather (+0.7%), while the prices for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.

Netherlands Leather Footwear Imports

In January 2023, supplies from abroad of leather footwear decreased by -11.6% to 9.8M pairs, falling for the third consecutive month after three months of growth. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate modest growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2022 with an increase of 115% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of 21M pairs. From July 2022 to January 2023, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, leather footwear imports reduced modestly to $260M (IndexBox estimates) in January 2023. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4% over the period from January 2022 to January 2023; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 16% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 310M pairs in September 2022; however, from October 2022 to January 2023, imports failed to regain momentum.

Netherlands Leather Footwear Imports by Type

In January 2023, footwear, sole rubber, plastics uppers of leather, nes (6.2M pairs) constituted the largest type of leather footwear supplied to the Netherlands, with a 63% share of total imports. Moreover, footwear, sole rubber, plastics uppers of leather, nes exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, boots, sole rubber or plastic upper leather, nes (2.5M pairs), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by footwear, soles, uppers of leather, over ankle, nes (664K pairs), with a 6.8% share.

From January 2022 to January 2023, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of import of footwear, sole rubber, plastics uppers of leather, nes stood at +2.2%. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: boots, sole rubber or plastic upper leather, nes (-0.9% per month) and footwear, soles, uppers of leather, over ankle, nes (+8.4% per month).

In value terms, the most traded types of leather footwear in the Netherlands were footwear, sole rubber, plastics uppers of leather, nes ($146M), boots, sole rubber or plastic upper leather, nes ($83M) and footwear, outer soles and uppers of leather, nes ($17M), with a combined 95% share of total imports. These products were followed by footwear, soles, uppers of leather, over ankle, nes and footwear, nes, uppers leather, which together accounted for a further 5.5%.

Netherlands Leather Footwear Imports by Country

Belgium (2M pairs), Vietnam (1.7M pairs) and Germany (1.1M pairs) were the main suppliers of leather footwear imports to the Netherlands, together comprising 49% of total imports.

From January 2022 to January 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +6.2%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest leather footwear suppliers to the Netherlands were Belgium ($44M), Germany ($43M) and Vietnam ($29M), with a combined 45% share of total imports.

Vietnam, with a CAGR of +3.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
