Netherlands Sees An 8% Hike in Perfume Price, Reaching $45.5 per Kg.

Netherlands Perfume Import Price in April 2023

In April 2023, the perfume price amounted to $45,510 per ton (CIF, Netherlands), rising by 8.2% against the previous month. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in November 2022 an increase of 55% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $48,314 per ton in February 2023; however, from March 2023 to April 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In April 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($88,185 per ton), while the price for India ($3,925 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+5.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Netherlands Perfume Imports

In April 2023, approximately 3.6K tons of perfumes and toilet waters were imported into the Netherlands; increasing by 27% on the previous month. In general, total imports indicated a mild expansion from April 2022 to April 2023: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on April 2023 figures, imports decreased by -26.7% against February 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2023 when imports increased by 31% month-to-month.

In value terms, perfume imports surged to $163M (IndexBox estimates) in April 2023. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a temperate increase from April 2022 to April 2023: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on April 2023 figures, imports decreased by -30.9% against February 2023 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 with an increase of 90% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $267M. From December 2022 to April 2023, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Netherlands Perfume Imports by Country

China (812 tons), Germany (751 tons) and the United States (358 tons) were the main suppliers of perfume imports to the Netherlands, together accounting for 54% of total imports. Spain, the UK, India, the United Arab Emirates, Belgium, France, Poland, Italy and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by India (with a CAGR of +35.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($66M) constituted the largest supplier of perfume to the Netherlands, comprising 41% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the United States ($15M), with a 9% share of total imports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 6.8% share.

From April 2022 to April 2023, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Germany stood at +10.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: the United States (+0.1% per month) and Belgium (+0.7% per month).
