Euronews reported his insights against the backdrop of increasing remote work, highlighting the housing crisis and evolving economic scenarios as key factors.

Since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, there has been a substantial shift in how people perceive work locations, with remote and hybrid work becoming mainstream. This trend is projected to continue growing, with a report by the World Economic Forum suggesting a 25% increase in global digital jobs by 2030. According to Sutherland, the flexibility in work models has allowed people to reconsider traditional lifestyles, favoring a potentially nomadic existence.

Sutherland points out that skyrocketing house prices are a significant driver for this change. Data from IndexBox indicates that between 2010 and the second quarter of 2024, house prices across the EU increased by 52%, whereas rents climbed by 25%. This economic pressure, coupled with modern digital tools enabling remote work, could entice more individuals to seek alternative living arrangements beyond expensive urban centers.

The marketing expert advocates for the adoption of tools such as land value taxation, inspired by economist Henry George, as a means to make housing more affordable. As more professionals prioritize flexible working conditions over salary, Sutherland believes this will underpin a shift from the sedentary living of city life to a more mobile, freedom-oriented lifestyle.
