Party City Announces Closure of 700 Stores Amid Financial Struggles

After nearly four decades as a staple for festive supplies, Party City has announced the closure of almost 700 stores across the United States. The retail giant, known for its extensive party supplies ranging from Halloween costumes to New Year's Eve decorations, has begun the process of winding down its operations. The announcement, covered in further detail here, marks the company's second Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing in under two years. Despite efforts to reconfigure the business's structure, prevailing inflation and economic conditions proved insurmountable.

Despite the store closures, Party City intends to retain more than 95% of its 12,000 employees to assist in the closure proceedings. However, as Party City leadership noted, the 'macroeconomic headwinds' of recent times have been too severe to overcome, ultimately leading to this decisive action.
